08/03-04 - Hehuanshan 4 Peaks

Product Number: PBTWON009-0803

☀️☀️☀️ Trail Rating: Moderate ☀️☀️☀️ Parkbus Taiwan's Hehuanshan 4 Peaks Tour offers guests an opportunity to climb four of Taiwan's 100 Peaks over a two-day adventure. Join us as we explore one of Taiwan's most iconic hiking destinations, Hehuanshan National Forest. This small group tour will spend two full days exploring mountain trails deep in the country's Central Mountain Range.

This small group hiking trip offers guests the opportunity to climb at least 4 of Taiwan's “Top 100 Peaks” over 3,000 meters in elevation. Known as the "Bai Yue", these high-mountain climbs have become something of a bucket list experience for hikers around the world. Our team will spend two days hiking various trails above the treeline in Taiwan's first National Forest.

Day one will allow guests to get acclimatized to the high elevation, climbing two of the easier Bai Yue on the list. After a group dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable 3-star accommodation in the village of Cing Jing, the group will set off on Day 2 for a more challenging 8-hour hike to Hehuan West Peak. Passing Hehuan North Peak en route. Day two sees guests bag another two Bai Yue.

The best part about this hiking tour is that these trails require no high-mountain permits and are the most accessible and arguably the easiest "Bai Yue" to hike in the country.

Daily Itinerary
DAY 1
Day One - Overview

Guests will arrive at Taichung HSR in Taichung on their own, where we will begin our trip. Our tour guide awaits guests to transfer to Hehuanshan, where varied high mountain peaks, epic views, diverse plant forms and animal life, together create a rich texture of a unique and natural ecosystem.

After getting dropped off at a designated parking lot in Wuling, the group will take a short walk to  the Hehuanshan Main Peak (合歡山主峰) Trailhead . Listed as No. 37 on Taiwan’s famed Top 100 Mountains known as the Bai Yue (百岳). We will begin our, approximately, 1 hour group hike to the peak at 3,417m elevation. This mountain trail follows a spectacular mountain ridge with seemingly endless views on clear days. The trail itself is only moderately steep and is a natural path up the east side of Main Peak. The group will take in the views and enjoy the surrounding Central Mountains before starting the hike down. Following a 1-hour descent, the group will arrive back at our private shuttle. From here, guests will be transferred down to the Hehuanshan Lookout for lunch.

Listed as No. 35 of the Bai Yue, the ascent up Hehuanshan East Peak (合歡山東峰) at 3,421m will take about an hour, followed by another hour to come down. This 2.2km (return) trail is very well maintained and, on a clear day, also offers spectacular views. The trail is also well-trodden and is relatively easy for most moderately fit individuals.

After the group has finished descending from Hehuan East Peak, guests can stay at Hehuanshan Lookout and enjoy a time to relax and grab a coffee/snack. If time permits, the guests choose to hike one of two short trails (if time allows, both can be ascended).

The first peak, Shimenshan (石門山) which has an elevation of 3237m and a total distance of just over 1.6km (return). The elevation gains on this trail total about 115m. This is the longer of the two secondary peaks the group can choose to climb after East Peak. Shimenshan is also another of Taiwan's Bai Yue. The estimated time to climb up and return is about 45 minutes, potentially faster/slower depending on one's capabilities. This is the harder of the two hikes available for guests in this area.

The second peak, Hehuanshan Point (合歡尖山), is not officially listed as one of Taiwan's Bai Yue. Hehuanshan Point is located at an elevation of 3,217m and the trailhead is right behind the service area. This steep rocky mound is the quickest to ascend, taking about 10 minutes to reach the top. From the northern side, a series of stairs takes you directly to the summit. From here, guests will have a chance to take in the awe-inspiring views across the mountains and rugged landscape. Heading back down, the trail is steep and when dry, the trail surface can be a bit loose and slippery. Please take your time and use caution. The total distance for this trail is 900m (return) and should take guests between 20-40 minutes in total.
